The Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive aims to minimise the impact of such equipment on the environment during the products’ life span, and when it becomes waste. The WEEE Directive sets criteria for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment.
The WEEE Directive encourages businesses to do everything they can to reuse equipment. Recycle ICT provide all information and services required by the implementation of the WEEE Directive for businesses to ensure WEEE compliance at each stage of the legislation.
Any equipment on your premises manufactured before 12th August 2005 is your responsibility to dispose of, and costs must be met by your business
It is your responsibility to appoint a WEEE disposal agent
Any relevant products manufactured after 12th August 2005 will be accompanied by documentation from the Producer advising you who to contact when the product reaches the end of its life
The Producer must demonstrate a process for WEEE disposal, however each business is free to appoint whoever offers them the best environmental, most secure and most cost effective solution
This directive aims to prevent or reduce as far as possible negative effects on the environment from the landfilling of waste, by introducing stringent technical requirements for waste and landfills and setting targets for the reduction of biodegradable municipal waste going to landfill.
